Wednesday, March 21, 2018

In a world divided by more than 150 international boundaries, sports unites people of all backgrounds, religions and ethnicities from around the globe. With the industry growing and showing no signs of stopping, the market value is predicted to grow to nearly $74 billion by 2019 according to Forbes estimates. So how is the world of sports shaping up and what plans are in the pipeline, we give you a slight overview of all things fun.

Leveling the Playing Field

A non-profit initiative started by Max Lewitt, a US based Sports Management major works by collecting sports equipment donated by schools and universities and then passing them on to low funding schools from impoverished areas. The company operates from a 4000 square foot warehouse in Maryland and store almost a $1 million worth of sports equipment. Featured as a CNN Hero in a news piece published by the leading website, Max has been hailed for his approach that is utilizing sports equipment that otherwise might have been lost or just disposed off.

Sports betting being hailed as state revenue source

An ongoing battle in a New York court over the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, that declares betting over sports and bookmaking illegal, is being closely followed by certain lawmakers. If the US Supreme Court strikes down the act, betting could become official at some of the leading casinos in the State. Gary Pretlow, chairman of the Gaming Committee in the lower house has said that he believes the court will lift the ban and that he plans to portray betting as a leading source of state revenues.

A general perspective

Sports are one of the most widely watched TV programs around the world. The nature of the game might differ but at the end of the day the love remains constant. Athletes from different games are one of the highest paid people around the world today with their trade prices and monthly payouts hitting new highs every season. The fact that these players are able to take home such heavy pay checks is testament to the fact that there is potential in the arena.

Sports equipment sales are heavily boosted during every season as well with people going crazy over numbered jerseys of their favorite players as well as general sports kits. It is a healthy sign because sports have tremendous health benefits. Numerous researches have indicated that the susceptible ages for life threatening diseases are increasingly dropping and physical inactivity is contributing a lot in this regard. A boost to the sports industry is therefore a healthy sign.

Summing everything up at the end, the sports industry is growing with important humanitarian and business related developments. It is an interesting space to watch if healthy activities interest you or even if you’re a couch potato, it is no reason to not like baseball!
